"SPEECH-TO-TEST"
It employs the everyday "speech-to-text" technology to test and dissect 148 government news announcements made during a COVID-19 peak in Hong Kong in early 2022.
This technology, which learns and processes language based on our collective input, serves as a barometer for public understanding of language. By applying it to official communications, I challenge their comprehensibility. The resulting text, rife with unexpected and often humorous nonsensical translations, not only mirrors public confusion but also highlights the often indecipherable
nature of government messages. These translations were then printed and used to engage the public in a dialogue about this social issue during that crucial times.
